Ideally, you want the plug to sit perfectly flush with the case surface when it is fully tightened. If you tap too deep, the plug will sink into the gallery and could potentially block oil flow; if you don"t tap deep enough, the plug will stick out and may interfere with the flywheel, fan shroud, or other peripheral components.
