Frame notch, step, notch, C-notch, whatever you want to call it... You need to install one for your lowered truck! If you have lowered your truck but have not installed a notch kit, then you may "bottom out" with a loud bang as your rear axle is slamming into your rear frame rails. As you lower your truck suspension, the axle moves up and closer to the frame rail. With the notch kit, you mount the notch on the frame rail directly above the axle. You then cut the frame rails, which will give you the clearance you need for the axle to move upward.
