It is a great idea to replace these o-rings whenever you replace the lower tube. They mount to the nipple that protrudes out of the backside of the water pump. If your nipple is still in good condition which is usually the case, then you can safely just replace the o-rings for a safe leak-free connection that will give you many years of service.
